Executive announced his departure from the company via Twitter
Jonathan Schwartz, then CEO of Sun Microsystems, announced his departure from the company’s leadership. The information was posted by the executive on the microblogging service Twitter. He had been appointed CEO of the manufacturer in 2006, when the company was facing several challenges, especially with its strategy focused on the open source world.
“Today is my last day at Sun. I will miss it,” the executive wrote on Thursday (02/04). Schwartz was the first CEO of a major company to use Twitter as a platform to announce his position and comment on industry-related matters.
Few expected Schwartz to survive the acquisition of Sun by Oracle. At the end of 2008, the executive supported selling the company to IBM. The talks were delayed, and chairman Scott McNealy helped close a deal with Oracle, announced on April 20.
