Everything went wrong and you need to reinstall your MAC OSX operating system (any version). Believe me, I tried this with OS X Lion, OS X Mountain Lion, OS X Snow Leopard, OS X Mavericks, and even OS X Yosemite.
I tried resetting SMC and PRAM… Everything pointed to a disk problem, but it wasn’t.
Symptoms:
1/ I can enter the MAC recovery screen with command + R
2/ I can use Disk Utility and verify that my disk is OK
3/ I can start the OS X reinstallation in all possible ways (Recovery Menu, Internet Recovery, SuperDisk/DVD, via Internet)
NOTE: No matter which method I use to restart the OS X installation, they all fail and show the same error.
The error, in English: “can’t be verified” and “error occurred while preparing the installation. Try running this application again.” Or, in Portuguese, something like: “Não pode ser verificado” and “Ocorreu um erro enquanto preparando a instalação. Tente rodar esta aplicação mais tarde.”
The fact is, you can try as many times as you want. It won’t work. The error is vague and unclear.
You will be led to believe it’s a hardware problem, like the disk.
GOOD NEWS! You don’t have any problem!
The issue is a simple DATE problem. That’s right, the DATE. Just change your computer’s date via the terminal and BINGO! You will be able to install your operating system… Like a charm

Follow the video below that shows the error and how to change the date in the terminal:
